Red, Green, and Blue Named 'Red Hot Blog of the Day'

I am pleased and humbled to announce that the good folks over at RedOrbit have named Green Options' environmental politics blog, Red, Green, and Blue as the ‘Red Hot Blog of the Day‘ for May 23, 2008. As many of you already know, I've been the lead writer at Red, Green, and Blue since its inception in the Spring of 2008. I am proud of the place we have carved out within the niche thus far, and I look forward to the places it will go in the future.

RedOrbit provides mountains of wide-ranging content contained covering the vast ideological spectrums of space, science, health, and technology. Launched in in 2003, RedOrbit averages over 5 million unique visitors per month, “with subject matter a bit more intellectually oriented than most” (I love that last part).

75% of Greens OK with Nuclear Power?

Over in the TalkClimateChange section of the new Green Options Discussion Forum, my colleague Mark Seall recently wrapped-up a “Live Debate” on the merits of nuclear power. In addition to the excellent and informed discussion with nuclear experts and environmentalists, there was also a reader poll that concluded with some rather unexpected results. Nearly 75 percent of the respondents believe that nuclear power is good because it is a source of “abundant carbon free energy.”

Yes, this is a reader poll, and it is not a statistical representation of the public attitude of any country in particular. But it is striking that the 133 readers who did vote, were all doing so from a blog network called Green Options. Get it? Simply put, the public attitude towards nuclear power has undergone a seismic shift in recent years. This evidence indicates that this is not the same environmental movement that emerged in the early 1970’s.

Three Cheers for the Red, Green, and Blue

I am proud to announce my position as the lead writer in an exciting new endeavor on the Green Options Media network. Red, Green, and Blue will focus on "environmental politics from across the spectrum."

I cannot think of a better time to be launching a niche blog that is focused on environmental politics. Record numbers of people (especially young people) have already turned out to vote in their state’s primaries and caucuses. Nearly everywhere we go and virtually everything we consume is being infused with green hues (or attempting to be infused with green hues). With that said, politics are as natural as the trees, oceans, and mountains.

This blog is not intended to be only about American environmental politics. In computer parlance, “Red, Green, and Blue” refers to three color model that is used to create a broad spectrum of colors from just those three primary colors. And that is what we are aiming for as a blog. By welcoming and encouraging thoughtful and informed discussions about American and global environmental politics from across the political spectrum, we hope to fill a gap in the blogosphere which is critically underdeveloped.

Happy Birthday to Green Options Media

As busy as I was with all of the caucusing and primaries going on today, it nearly slipped my mind that my friends at Green Options have just turned one year old today. So, go pay them a visit and read any of the birthday retrospectives written by some of GO's best.

Hardly newbies to the green blogosphere, the founders of Green Options have built their 'flagship' sustainablog, which was written and managed by Jeff McIntire-Strasburg since 2003 before he opened it up to a broader collection of voices in 2007. GO assembled a solid group of experts, pundits and writers (including yours truly) to launch several green blogs including ones on green building, green entrepreneurship, environmental news and activism, green cars and renewable fuels, and green crafts, just to name a few. There are several more websites that are in the design phase and I would hate to spoil the surprise as to what they are about, but you will be seeing them very soon.

Once again, I want to thank the GO community for letting me contribute to their new green blog playground, and I wish them nothing but continued success.
